New Tech intern program allows teens to test careers
Sweeping his blond mane into a low ponytail and donning a uniform transforms New Technology High School senior Louie Pelaez from teen to chef-in-training. . . . Headed for either the Culinary Institute of America or the San Francisco Art Institute’s culinary program in the fall, Pelaez is clearly in his element. That’s the idea behind New Tech’s internship program, according to Heidi Hamler, who runs it at the high school campus in central Napa. The program took off at New Tech when the campus opened back in 1996, Hamler said.
