Needs & Goals

It’s time for the next phase of this educational reform here in our town. Our goal is to take what we created with New Tech High to the next level and empower all students throughout Napa County with these critical 21st Century tools and skills.  We are committed to transforming selected existing classrooms at Napa High and Vintage High Schools into Project-Based Learning classrooms so that every student can experience the SC21 model during their school career.

We’ve already started this process. In the fall of 2007, five teachers participated in SC21 training to learn how to transform their curriculum into an SC21 model and how to create appropriate projects for their students. Beginning in January, two SC21 classrooms were transformed to the SC21 model at both Vintage and Napa High Schools. This September, two more SC21 classrooms at each high school will be added and six more teachers will receive this invaluable training.

By Fall 2011, the goal is to implement 64 SC21 classrooms at the public high schools in Napa. The classrooms will include Project-Based Learning using integrated curriculum, team teaching and a one-to-one student computing ratio. Every student will have the opportunity to be scheduled in at least one SC21 classroom. And many students will have the opportunity to take more than one SC21 class. We will all benefit by having graduates who are ready to contribute to the community, succeed in college, and qualify for high-wage, high-skills jobs.
